Creating Creativity

PBandJterm Comes to an End

Last Week of Class

I can honestly say I definately did not learn this much in my j-term class last year. I have came such a far way and learned so much about networking. I am sad to see this class end, and not ready for the semester to begin. PBandJterm has allowed to me to open up to new ideas and join several different networking sites. I am sad to admit that I have finally got the hang of twitter and am not a total Twitter hater.

I just wanted to blog about a couple of my favorite parts to PBandJterm. Firstly I wanted to mention how happy I am that I choose a J-term class that I know will benefit my future career choices. I have came along way from the first day of class and know that I will continue to use the resources and connections I have learned to better my future. I have already gained more knowledge about networking and how important your online personal brand is in three weeks than I have my entire life. I have become more confident when blogging and actually put meaning beind my work.

This week we had three guest speakers and I learned from each and every one of them. Jessica and Maddie are two young adults who not long ago were in my exact seat. I learned alot from both of these girls, I find them inspirational because they had no idea how to create a blog but they put their mind to it and succeeded with flying colors. Here is their blog!

 CITY IN A JAR

One of my favorite blogs from City in a Jar is Date Night-Get dessert

A few of my favorite parts of this class were, learning how to Tweet although I did get frustrated at times. I have grown from that frustration and know I feel like I kinda know what I am doing. My friends still tease me and and tag me in tweets how I do not know how to tweet back, but I am determined to prove them wrong:) Re-Tweet: “danielllebrownDanielle Brown @TaylorHenke i don’t know if @KatharynHerman knows when someone tweets at her lol”

Little do they know I do know exactly how to use Twitter thanks to my PBandJterm class!

Here is a website that I came across earlier today that I LOVE LOVE LOVE: Ballerina Project

It is called the Ballerina Project, it is thousands of pictures of dancers posing in a dynamic area. All of these photos are created to be sold to emphasize the importance of the arts.

Rachel C.- Boston

I have learned so much, before this class I did not know how to use a Twitter, WordPress, did not have a linkedIn page, google reader and many other new online networking groups. I am now much more aware of how important your online name is and how it can either make or break your future. I have always been aware of how your future boss and look youup online, however; from this class I am more confident about my online personal brand then ever. I hope to have a positive online brand and for future bosses to be pleased with my online exsistance.

Inspiration and Motivation

LIVE, LAUGH,LOVE,DANCE,INSPIRE,MOTIVATE

TO

Be INSPIRED

Inspiration:

Inspiration comes in many different forms, everyone has someone they look up to for inspiration or motivation. With all sports athletes that go down in history are always giving motiviation to young athletes and showing you that you can acheive greatness if you work hard enough. Below is a list of dancers who not only have inspired me in many different way but have also influenced the history of dance.

Motivation

Motivation is something that comes from within, you can watch people acheive greatness which in return motivates you to also be great. But life is made up of choices and it is your choice to be the best version of yourself.

Three of the most inspirational dancers of all time

1. Martha Graham( a modern genius)

“Great dancers are not great because of their technique, they are great because of their passion.” – Martha Graham

Martha Graham is one of the founders of the modern genre of dance, I find Graham to be inspiring because she was one of the first dacners to step out of the  norm of “classical ballet”, and express her deepest emotions. She inpires me to never follow the crowd and stand up for what I believe in. Martha Graham is a dance pioneer for her new inovative style and abstract movements.

2. Alvin Ailey

“Choreography is mentally draining, but there’s a pleasure in getting into the studio with the dancers and the music.”
- Alvin Ailey

Alvin Ailey is one of the first African American contemporary choregraphers to start his own company. He is known for his multi-cultural company and emphasizes the greatness of diversity in the world. Ailey founded the Alvin Ailey American dance theater which quickly obtained the nickname , ”Cultural Ambassador to the World” . Ailey also stepped beyond the normal classical ballet and really acknowledged different cultures and the history behind dance.

3.George Balanchine (One of the most influential ballet choregrapher/dancer in the 20th century)

Balanchine is known for being one of the developers of ballet in the United States and is co founder of the New York City ballet. Balanchine was the ballet master of the time. He has created of 500 dance pieces and will forever be one of the most influential men in ballet history. New York City Ballet is one of the most prestigous ballet companies in the world and Balanchine will forever be an inspiration to all ballet lovers.

Kansas City Ballet

I just wanted to blog about one of my very favorite ballet companies, that just so happens to be right here in Missouri. I have had first had experience with the Kansas City Ballet. My former dance teacher was in the Kansas City ballet for years, growing up I was able to attend many preformances and shows preformed by the Kansas City ballet. Not only do I adore their superb technigue and gracefulness I was lucky enough to personally take classes from several of the prima ballerinas. For three summers while I was in highschool I tried out to attend Kansas City Ballets Summer Intensive program, we would go stay in a hotel for 4 weeks every summer and would take 4 classes from the dancers in the company. This was an experience I will never forget, I was able to further my dance education while making personal relationships with real ballerinas.

Here is a video from one of Kansas City Ballets summer intensives.

Mind Over Body

You Can Achieve Greatness

Dance is something that exercises the mind just as much as the body. Not many sports concentrate on memorization as much as dance. What people are unaware of is that dancers are constantly being challenged to remember several dances at a time. This causes a strain on your body because of the constant movement but also your mind.

Dance is constantly stimuating both your mind and body, dance is a game of mind over body but if your not always thinking then the body becomes worthless. Dance is an art that takes more skill than many other sports just because of the face that you have to memorize every single little detail.

In order to succeed in dance you must keep both your body and mind healthy, I have found some links that I feel are very informative and can help not just dancers but everyone achieve a healthier lifestyles.

Interesting Side Note

Just a little something I learned from doing research for this blog is dance is a form of cognitive learning, for example mind games are cognitive learning, puzzles, reading or writing. So not only am exercising my body but also your mind. Your brain is able to relate the dance motions with a word or emotion, therefore; your brain is relating the movement with a feeling with then is linked to memorization.

Just Healthy

Just healthy is a blog about being the best version of yourself and how to maintain a healthy life style easily. The key word in the website is easy. This site not only posts simple recipies for you to make healthy food at home but also focuses on lives tasks in general and how healthy is always better in the long run. Something I found interesting in the website was just a simple list of easy tasks just to improve your diet.

1.    Chew your food well

2.    Drink fresh vegetable juice

3.    Brush well and then floss your teeth

4.    Add sprouts to your sandwiches

5.    Drink water with fresh lemon

Each of these tasks are extremely easy to do, not it is just up to you to try them out!

A Dancers Diet

A dancers diet is another blog that I found interesting, it consists of how dancers must maintain a different diet than the average Joe. For example a dancers diet must consist of   60% carbohydrates,  15% proteins and 25% fat. I enjoyed reading this blog because it was a diet that understood a dancers need for different food to maintain a low weight. There is diet plans available, advice columns and several recipes that I must try!!

Top 5 HEALTH Benefits of Dance

1.Staying Flexible

2. Stay in Shape

3. Working out your Body and Mind

4. Stamina

5. Release of tension

THE BENEFITS OF DANCE-Here is a blog I found the agrees with all of the above!

All of these are benefical to your well being, but as you can see all of the above do not only apply to dance they apply to all sports. So for all you guys who do not have a passion for dance my blog just might apply to you too!

Fun Fact!

Just a little something I learned from doing research for this blog is dance is a form of cognitive learning, for example mind games are cognitive learning, puzzles, reading or writing. So not only am exercising my body but also your mind. Your brain is able to relate the dance motions with a word or emotion. Your brain is relating the movement with a feeling with then is linked to memorization.

If you maintain a healthy lifestyle and diet along with consistent exercise there is no reason why you shouldn’t wake up every morning feeling amazing!

Becoming a Better You Through A Passion for Dance

A SPORT WITH BENEFITS: I have been lucky enough to experiences how truly beneficial dance can be, all styles of dance help you throughout your life. All sports teach you much more than just being athletic, throughout my life I have learned so much through being involved with dance.  I have learned leadership roles, how to keep my outside life seperate from my dance.

INTERVIEWS:Today in Lionettes practice I spoke with several of my teammates to see how they felt about dance being beneficial in other aspects of life. Many of the girls agreed that dance is much more than just a exercise, it causes you to manage your time wisely, being involved in an outside sport creates a sense of self-worth and creates an opportunity to make friends.

Heather Morgan

” Dance not only keeps you in shape but it also reduces stress and tensions, when I go to practice I am able to forget about lives problems and focus on what I love”.-Heather Morgan

My teammate Heather Morgan has danced her entire life also, she talked to me about how dance keeps her life in check. Being involved in any sport keeps school life hard to manage sometimes, all athletes at Lindenwood must maintain a 3.0 grade point average in order to participate.

Brianna Shaefer

”Being apart of the Lionettes dance team has not only helped me grow as a dancer but also helped me become a better person.”-Bri Shaefer

Brianna Shaefer is also one of my teammates that I talked about how dance is beneficial to life outside of practice. Dance is not just a sport that exercises your body it keeps your memorization skills. Bri stated, that being apart of a team creates a sense of self-worth and having other people who enjoy the same passion for dance as I do is comforting.

Kaitlin Gleb

” Being apart of a team with so many talented dancers made me realize how much of a blessing dance truly is, it is so much more than just a dance team; its a family.”-Kaitlin Gleb

Kaitlin Gleb is one of my former teammates, I discussed this subject  with her and she brought up a topic that I had not thought of. She mentioned how being apart of a team has allowed her to travel and see different parts of the U.S. I was able to travel to Kansas City, St. Louis and Chicago several times year. Being apart of a traveling team has helped me become a well rounded dancer because I had the opportunity to travel and meet many influential people. One of Kaitlins favorite parts of being on the Lionettes dance teams was our trip to Nations in Daytona Florida. We competed for the first time in Lionettes history where we placed 3rd in the nation.

5 reasons how dance can benefit your life.

1. It helps you maintain a healthy life style.

2. Learn how prioritize and balance school and outside activities.

3. Learn how to work as a team in the studio and in life.

4.Helps manage your emotions and stress.

5.Dance you life skills including, responsiblity, poise and discipline.

Here are a few good websites I found to help me out with this blog and that could help you understand this subject a little more!:)

Week Number Two has Come and Gone

Week Numero Dos

This week has literally flown by, I cannot believe that we only have one week left of J-term. This week has been a little bit of a struggle for me, I definitely need to focus on paying attention to detail on all of my online profiles and keep them clean and orderly. This week we focused on creating a blog for yourself, at first I was a bit hesitant on what subject to blog about. What better topic to write about than something that you are truly passionate about. I feel like this blog is going to be beneficial to many different types of people. Art is a way of life and what people do not realize how many different things are considered to be an art. To me anything that you are creating whether it be the blog, a song, a poem, a painting all of theses things are art. I think my blog is going to be a success for several different reasons, I do not plan on only blogging about why I like dance blah blah blah. I hope to create a better understanding for people who think dance is not a sport or its a waste of time. Not only am I creating a blog about something I love, I get to blog about something that I have experienced for 18 years of my life.

Prezi

Another thing that we learned in class this week is how to use Prezi, I have not ever heard of Prezi until last week in class. With Prezi you have a love hate relationship, I think I have been successful when creating my presentation about my dance blog. I have found Prezi to not only be creative but it has flow to it, and is more pleasing to the eye. Prezi can tricky but once you get the hang of it, its smooth sailing from there. Here is my Prezi I created to explain my ideas for my blog. Now go and create your own Prezi!

Nick Gilham- LinkedIn

This week we had a guest speaker, Nick Gilham. Gilham is an expert about using LinkedIn. Gilham showed the class how influential LinkedIn can be. He showed up how to keep our profile professional and how you can make connections through LinkedIn that can truly make a difference. I enjoyed Nick Gilhams presentation and now have much more knowledge of the benefits of LinkedIn.

Blog Ideas!

I wanted to also include some links that have helped me create ideas to use for my blog. I was thinking about including some healthy eating tips on my blog. Being an athlete includes being as healthy as possible. Here is a blog I found that gives healthy eating tips that is easy to use and has a lot of offer. The Special K is a website is extremely useful, it gives lifestyle tips, fitness tips and nutrition tips. I hope you can find this useful in your life. No college students wants to eat cafe food every gosh darn day and if you ask me you better be safe than sorry and NOT gain that freshman 15!

The Passionate Trial Balloon-Dance

The Four D’s: Dedication, Determination, Discipline and DANCE

For my balloon blog I wanted to try out the topic of dance, my problem is dance is such a broad category. I have danced all my life and I have not seen very many blogs from a dancers view point. So I wanted to elaborate on dance as a whole, dance is not only an exercise it is a way of life. The first thing you should know about me is how much I truly love dance, without dance I would not be here at Lindenwood today. I have an academic scholarship along with a grant through dance. I am currently a third year member of the Lionettes dance team and am also part of the first Lionettes nationals team. Last year we placed third in the nation, this year we have already been preparing for nations and are hoping to take first place. Through out my blog about dance I am going to touch on different aspects of dance and how it applies to my life.

I have found that people who have danced their entire life have a different outlook on life, just like musicians or artist. People who have artistic abilities view life in a different way than the average joe. Just like all athletics you have to be able to manage your time, sports consume your life. I have been dancing since the age of three and have not ever thought about taking a break. Everyone who is involved in out of school activities have to learn to manage their time at a young age. So I am trying out this blog to write not only about dance but how to manage your education, personal life and extra-curricular activities properly.

Dance Like Nobody Is Watching

Dancers, actors, artists, musicians all have something in common and that is passion and the love of art. Instead of walking down the street with not a thought in your head artists take in their surroundings and create from what is going on. Last year I took a dance class where we went outside and just watched and listened to things that were happening around campus and created a dance piece from it. This is where the common guy and a dancer or an artist differ, dancers use everyday life and created dances from it, they feel the rhythm around you.

To me dance is not only something to do for fun but it is a way of life, if you have artistic abilities you are much more likely to understand. Dance is an artform that cannot be learned you must be able to feel the music and dance from your heart. What many people do not understand is that dance takes much more dedication that several other sports. A dancer must be athletic, flexible, graceful, discipline and smart, not only are you having to do all the learned dance moves correctly but you are always thinking. There is never a moment where your mind is not racing, a dancer must have a great memory. Sometimes you are having to remember and preform 10-15 dances in preformance. So heres to all you people who dont think dance is a sport, it takes much more disciple, dedication and determination that you think. That is just the start of my blog about dance and hopefully I can think of more things that people would find interesting!

Week #1

One Week Down Two to Go For PBandJterm!

I am so pleased with choosing Personal Branding as my Jterm class. Being one of two people in the entire class who did not have a Twitter, I was a bit worried the first day. To be honest I was totally against the idea of making a twitter but I have grown to enjoy it a bit more. I do not find myself being a twitter junkie anytime soon though.

This week we have already accomplished so much. Between creating two presentations, that I found not only enjoyable to create but also entertaining to learn about everyone else.  We also started a blog, became more familiar with Twitter and played with Wordle. I really liked playing with Wordle, its a fun and easy way to make creative groupings of words.

Tweet Me!

So I have been on Twitter everyday since I was obligated to make one, I become less and less of an anti-twitter girl. Before I had no interest what so ever in being involved with Twitter. Part of the reason was that I just did not understand what was with all of the hash tags and how Twitter actually worked, the other part of the reason why I did not like it was because I had no interest in knowing everyones everyyy single daily activity. I have even noticed a few people in PBandJterm class that seem to tweet like every five minutes. Sorry if your one of these people but it because of you I was so anti- twitter. But now I have came to an understanding about how convienent Twitter actually is and from our last assignment I learned how you can make amazing connections through something as simple as a having a Twitter account.

Summing It up!

It is your responsibility to use these social media sites appropriately. They are available to better your future or you can used them just for fun and not care what could possibly be revealed about you. This week we have discussed so much about your personal brand hence the name “creating a personal and online logo.”  To me this is always something that I have taken into consideration. Being apart of several different school activities and dance teams you must always be aware of what your consequences might be. I am all for g0ing out and having fun, but it is how you handle yourself and make sure that your personal brand is staying clean. I found creating my synopsis and objective extremely hard to do, I have not ever really heard of making a synopsis. I finally made one that I felt was decent but I still want to go back and make it perfect.

Jay Baer!

I truly enjoyed doing research on Jay Baer, this man is not very old an has accomplished so much in his life already. He is an inspiration to many many communications majors. What really sold me was how genuine of a person he really was, I am so glad I had time to show the video within my presentation because that class got to see how much Jay Baer does care about his clients. Convince and Convert.
